HMICFRS Inspection Reports

His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Service (HMICFRS) are commissioned by the Home Secretary to undertake inspections of police forces and fire and rescue services.

Section 55(5) of the Police Act 1996 requires all Police and Crime Commissioners to prepare comments on any published HMICFRS reports that relate to their force, to forward these to the Home Office and then publish in the manner they see fit.  Comments made since May 2021 from the Police and Crime Commissioner can be found below:

The HMICFRS latest annual report on the effectiveness, efficiency and legitimacy of Cambridgeshire Constabulary – ‘PEEL – Police effectiveness, efficiency and legitimacy 2020/21' can be found here.

Due to the Covid-19 public health emergency, HMICFRS suspended all inspection work, including PEEL inspections. No PEEL assessments were published in 2020 and the programme recommenced in 2021.   Further information on the PEEL assessment process can be found on HMICFRS’ website
