New Chair appointed to Commissioner and Chief Constable’s Joint Audit Committee

Former Air Commodore John Pye has been appointed as the new Chair of the Joint Audit Committee (JAC) for Cambridgeshire’s Police & Crime Commissioner (PCC) and Chief Constable.   

Mr Pye brings a wealth of executive experience, with a strong emphasis on change, from his time with the Royal Air Force and with the British Antarctic Survey.  

The JAC provides independent scrutiny and assurance on the adequacy of the corporate governance, risk management and the associated control environment. Its membership is independent of the Commissioner and the Constabulary. It focuses on how things are done in line with good governance principles and practice. 

On embracing his new role Mr Pye said: ‘In my non-executive life, I have become increasingly involved in the world of governance – including taking on newly created roles in support of organisations going through change. 

“I had the opportunity to see the introduction of PCCs when I was an Independent Police Authority member in 2012 and later, as the first Audit Committee Chair for the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, the introduction of a new mayor. 

“Policing continually faces change. PCCs and Chief Constables have to be adaptable in implementing new polices and processes whilst always maintaining an effective service for the public.” 

“I very much look forward to this new role. The JAC helps ensure that the organisation is functioning properly and competently, which in turn contributes to building public trust and confidence in policing – which I know is a priority for both the Commissioner and Chief Constable.’’
