Darryl Preston has been re-elected as Cambridgeshire and Peterborough’s new Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC).
The vote took place on Thursday 2nd May across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, with the result being declared on Friday 3rd May at the Ross Peers Sports Centre in Soham by Police Area Returning Officer, John Hill.
Darryl received a total of 61,688 votes, while candidates Anna Smith received 58,304 and Edna Murphy, 41,984 votes. On being re-elected, Darryl said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been re-elected as PCC for the people of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. It is an honour and a privilege to be able to continue in the role keeping all of our communities safe.”
Having served as Police and Crime Commissioner since May 2021, Darryl brings a wealth of experience to the role. He was both a front-line police officer and a senior detective for 30 years (in the Met and Cambridgeshire Constabulary) and following retirement worked as a senior official for the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners where he lobbied Government on topics such as serious violence, economic crime and sexual offences legislation.
Darryl’s second term in office begins officially on Thursday 9th May where he will sign the Oath of Acceptance.
