Jim Haylett, Chief Executive for the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough has announced his retirement at the end of July 2024.
Jim notified Police and Crime Commissioner, Darryl Preston of his intention to retire just before the Police and Crime Commissioner elections held in May 2024.
Having worked for 38 years in both operational and strategic policing roles, Jim began his career as an officer in South Yorkshire Police before joining the OPCC in 2013. Throughout his time at the OPCC, Jim has operated on behalf of four Police and Crime Commissioners in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough supporting them to deliver their Police and Crime Plans and their statutory duties which include holding the Chief Constable to account.
Jim said: “It has been a privilege to support both the elected Commissioners and the team behind them who work tirelessly with the Constabulary and partners to keep our county safe.”
The Commissioner added: “Jim has been an exemplary CEO steering myself and my predecessors through notable change through the last 11 years. His dedication, loyalty and experience has enabled important progress to be delivered against my Police and Crime Plan.
“On behalf of myself and the team I would like to wish Jim the very best for his retirement.”
Chief Constable, Nick Dean said: “Jim has given valuable support to the Constabulary and to me as Chief Constable over many years for which I am extremely grateful.
“His professionalism, knowledge and commitment will be very much missed. I and the whole of the Constabulary wish him the very best for his retirement. Well-deserved and a huge thank you.”
Jack Hudson has been appointed as interim Chief Executive until a selection process for a new Chief Executive has been completed. Jack has a wealth of experience in policing at both operational and strategic level which included leading change through collaboration. Before this role, Jack headed up business development within the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough OPCC under the role of Director for Governance and Compliance.
