The Commissioner’s role is to ensure an efficient and effective police service in their area. Commissioners set police and crime objectives, the police budget and issue crime and disorder reduction grants through the Police and Crime Plan. Commissioners also hold the police to account, making them answerable to the public. With a remit across the crime agenda, the organisation interacts with a wide range of partners and will play a key role in significant transformation in this agenda during this period.
This role is wide-ranging, core responsibilities include:
• contributing to the development and implementation of policy in key priority areas;
• overseeing effective decision making processes and engagement with external partners;
• ensuring the organisation’s effective response to correspondence and complaints, supporting the
Commissioner’s role in listening to the public.
The role offers significant development opportunities including the opportunity to work closely with the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner, a wide range of partners including the most senior officers of the Constabulary and to work across local, regional and national agendas.
