New Police Contact Point opens in Tesco, Wisbech

Members of the public in Wisbech can raise any issues or concerns with their local policing team as they do their food shopping.

A new Police Contact Point was officially opened today (7th January) by Cambridgeshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Sir Graham Bright.

The Contact Point, located in the Tesco Extra store on Crowell road, Wisbech, will be regularly staffed by Sir Graham Bright’s Outreach Worker and local police who will be on hand to hear the views of the public and provide advice and guidance on policing issues.

Sir Graham said: “The contact point will be a highly visible and easily accessible way for the public to raise any issues or concerns either with my Outreach Worker or with the local policing team. Many people don’t like going to a police station and having a contact point like this in such a popular location will make it easier for people to discuss any issues they want to see being addressed within the Wisbech area. This is about listening to the public and further increasing the time our officers spend out in their communities.”

Kevin Chestnutt, Store Manager, said: “We are delighted to host this Police Contact Point in our store. The store is a focal point of the community and we have around xx,000 customers through our doors each week. Providing additional community services such as this is something that Tesco are pleased to be a part of.”

Sgt Robin Cawston, who manages the local policing team, said “We know that people want to see officers out in their communities as much as possible and having a regular Contact Point at such a busy location allows more people to drop by and talk to their local policing team. My team will be on hand to support people with any policing issue they may have and also to hear about what concerns people have in their community.”
