Custody Visitors needed

The Office of the Cambridgeshire Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) is looking for one volunteer to join the Peterborough Panel of his Independent Custody Visiting Scheme.

Volunteers are independent of the police and their role is to make unannounced visits to custody facilities to observe and report back to the OPCC on the treatment of detainees in custody.

Independent Custody Visitors are unpaid, but allowances are payable to cover expenses incurred.   The time commitment required of Visitors is not onerous (3 to 4 hours a month) and initial and ongoing training will be given to successful applicants.

While there is just one vacancy for the Peterborough Panel, the OPCC would welcome interest from other parts of Cambridgeshire so that contact can be made with willing volunteers when vacancies occur.

Applications are invited from any person, aged 18 years or over and residing in Cambridgeshire/ Peterborough.  If you think you have what it take please contact the Scheme Co-ordinator to discuss or register your interest:
