Commissioner welcomes new Casualty Reduction Officer to help keep road users safe

POLICE and Crime Commissioner, Darryl Preston has welcomed Casualty Reduction Officer, Nick Southern to the Constabulary’s Partnership and Prevention team.

Nick, who officially took over the role at the beginning of the month will be supporting the county’s road safety partnership, Vision Zero, to educate drivers so they are less likely to be involved in a serious collision.

Vision Zero aims to halve the number of people killed or seriously injured on the UK roads by 2030. Nick will be working directly with partner agencies, such as the fire service, local authority, and the special constabulary as well as supporting national and local road safety events.

Nick’s experience spans from supporting custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station, to serving as a PCSO in St Neots, and a PC at Huntingdon Police Station. He’s looking forward to starting a new chapter In his policing career to work in collaboration with the Vision Zero partnership.

He said: “I have already started supporting Peterborough City Council to deliver face-to-face road safety presentations in schools to target 200 vulnerable road users.

“Road deaths have a profound impact on everyone affecting the families of victims, those who cause the collision and officers attending the incidents. “If anyone has a speeding concern in their community that they would like to discuss with me, please get in touch.”
