Could you be a MAPPA Lay Advisor?

December 20th, 2018

Would you like to be involved in a visionary, forward thinking, professional partnership managing and supervising dangerous offenders in our community?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to play a key role in their community, managing risk and improving public safety in Cambridgeshire.

The Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangement (MAPPA) involves Cambridgeshire Constabulary, National Probation Service, Prison Service, Local Authorities, Housing Associations and other professional and voluntary bodies in assessing and managing potentially dangerous offenders living in Cambridgeshire.

As a Lay Adviser, you will sit on the MAPPA Strategic Management Board (SMB) as an equal partner with senior managers from all agencies involved, and attend vital meetings as well as associated sub-groups and case reviews.

The work of MAPPA is sensitive and challenging. It is vital the public has a voice in how this is managed and Lay Advisors provide a crucial role by reflecting the views of the community. You will need to be prepared to challenge senior professionals, provide an objective and independent view, act as a sounding board and ultimately give reassurance risk is being managed in an appropriate way.

This is an important, voluntary unpaid post, and as such is directed at individuals who would be genuinely committed to participating in a critical initiative on behalf of the community.

No formal qualifications are required – just strong interpersonal skills, a balanced and objective approach and a genuine interest in making a contribution to public safety and public protection as well as the confidence and ability to constructively challenge the views and assumptions of senior professionals.

You will need to spare a few hours each month, be able to travel within Cambridgeshire to attend meetings and be capable of and responsible in dealing with sensitive information.
